Improving water supply and sanitation conditions
Samaritan's Purse water supply and sanitation projects include:
- New well construction
- Maintenance of non-functional water supply schemes
- Latrine construction
An example of how Samaritan's Purse is improving water supply is the Borehole Rehabilitation Projects in Africa .
Many communities in Africa are paralysed by the lack of water caused by drought. In a community in Mozambique , 35 % of the boreholes that were drilled in the 90's are non-operational, resulting in severe water shortage and the overuse of functional boreholes. Samaritan's Purse Borehole Rehabilitation Teams repair problematic boreholes to improve their productivity and quality and equip community members with the technical knowledge and management skills to maintain and improve boreholes.
