What is a Young People's OCC work team?
Young People's OCC work teams are short trips for young people (aged 18-24) to work with our partner agencies in countries where gift boxes are distributed, for the purpose of UK based volunteers and donors capturing the vision of OCC at the “receiving” end. Trips may vary in content, but tend to be for about four to seven days, and involve distributing OCC boxes to children in places such as schools, orphanages and hospitals. Trips will usually take place between December and February each year.
Purpose of trips:
To expose 18-24 year olds to the reality of life in transitional and/or developing countries. We work with individuals and groups to put together a team which will not only distribute OCC shoeboxes, but also engage with local young people (children and teenagers) in the issues that are facing them in their daily lives. These could include (e.g.) issues of education, homelessness, relationships, health, sexuality and spirituality.
Would suit:
Young dynamic individual (or group of) team members (18-24 years old) who have been volunteer supporters of OCC and will reinvest into OCC by telling others of their experience and about the OCC programme and the people it reaches.
