Natural Medicines Programme for Rural Poor
Kenya
Health is a major concern of any family, and especially for those who are caring for young children or older relatives. Medical care is not well established in rural areas, and where it is available it is often expensive and not always effective. In order to help supplement and improve the health of families, there are a number of simple, recognised natural medicines that can easily be grown alongside other crops on a family plot. This project, run by our partner REAP (Rural Extension with Africa's Poor) and working through local churches, has already facilitated the planting of medicinal plants in 18 communities in Western Kenya . As the work expands, teaching and planting methods will be further developed and disseminated in order to benefit an increasing number of families.

Adult Literacy Programme
Liberia
In Liberia , the average adult has received less than three years of schooling. Since many Liberians spent their childhoods struggling to urvive the war rather than participating in a classroom environment, there is a huge deficit of educated and skilled professionals and tradesmen. With improved literacy, it's expected that income levels and quality of life will increase. Through this project, fifty illiterate adults will attain improved levels of literacy and numeracy. With their new knowledge, they will run their own community development project to benefit the entire village of Koryah |

“Hope for the Youth” Programme
Serbia
Research has shown that 82% of Serbian youth would leave the country at the first available opportunity because they see no future for themselves in Serbia . Meanwhile, a survey carried out in Novi Sad elementary and high schools has showed that 70% of young people between the ages of 11 and 16 years use some type of drugs, and nationally 200,000 abortions are carried out annually – many on young people. Many Serbian youth are in desperate need of hope, love and direction. The youth programme aims to provide 60 vulnerable young people with care, support, discipleship and education to provide a viable alternative to crime and susbtance abuse.
