Kenya
Samaritan's Purse has a number of partners working in affected areas in Kenya , including Centre for Urban Mission (CUM), Life in Abundance (LIA) and Rural Extension with
Africa 's Poor (REAP). The former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, is continuing to try to negotiate a long-term solution to the poltical crisis, and whilst for some life has returned to some kind of normality, there are still many unresolved issues.
Samaritan's Purse helped in the immediate stage of the crisis by responding to the urgent needs of some 500 families in the Kibera slum, through our partner Centre for Urban Mission. 60 of these families had lost everything in the violence, whilst others were in need of temporary assistance. The intervention benefited around 2,500 people in total, as food items such as flour, beans, cooking oil, salt, tea and sugar were distributed along with non-food items such as blankets, plastic basins, mosquito nets and kitchen utensils.
Please continue to pray for lasting peace and reconciliation between the different groups in Kenya , for the Church to demonstrate God's love in this situation, and for wisdom and protection for our partners as they work amongst these communities.
